Baked beans are popular because they are easy to get and prepare.
In fact many of us have them stocked in the pantry since we are mostly still in quarantine.
But if you are sick and tired of eating it, why not jazz it up a little? Instead of just eating a plate of plain baked beans, why not make it into a salad or add it into your pasta and more! So here are some delicious ways you can enjoy baked beans!
1. BAKED BEANS AND TOAST
I know it seems a little weird but it’s actually quite good!
This is the simplest recipe of them all. All you gotta do is toast your bread then transfer your heated baked beans on it.
Add a dash of pepper and grated cheese to elevate the taste further!
2. BAKED BEANS AS A SALAD
Now this meal is going to be packed with fibre and protein!
So chop your red onions, tomato, green or red chillies and a handful of mint and coriander leaves. Then add in your cooked baked beans.
Squeeze some lemon juice in and add some chili sauce. Now mix it to your heart’s content and enjoy!
3. BAKED BEANS PASTA
Instead of the standard bolognese sauces, why not use baked beans sauce in your pasta!
So pour the can of baked beans and diced tomatoes into a pan and let it boil. You can also add in minced meat if you like.
When the sauce thickens, you can add any of your favorite cooked pasta and mix it all up. Season with salt and pepper and add in grated cheese to make it taste more awesome!
4. BAKED BEANS SHAKSHUKA
This is actually a really tasty Mediterranean dish.
Saute thinly sliced onion then add in a can of baked beans and cook them for about 2 minutes. Then use a spoon to make 2 or 3 holes. Then crack your eggs into each of the holes. Cover the pan with a lid and let it cook for 5 minutes until the egg is set but the yolk is runny.
You can garnish with some chopped chives or other herbs of your choice and grate some cheese on top of it. Best eaten while it’s still warm, cause you want to enjoy the satisfying egg yolk flow out as you cut it.
5. BOURBON BAKED BEANS
You read that right. It has alcohol hahaha.
So cook any choice of meat you prefer (pork, beef or chicken). Then remove it from the pan and saute some thinly sliced onions. Add 2 cans of baked beans, 1/4 cup of brown sugar, 1/4 cup of molasses, 2 tablespoons of yellow mustard and 1/4 cup of bourbon. Now slow cook it for 4 hours.
Then remove the lid, stir the mixture and cook on high heat for 20 minutes. Add in the meat and cook just for a few more minutes. Enjoy!
6. BAKED BEANS SOUP
This is such a hearty meal.
So chop your onion, some celery sticks, carrots and tomato. Add all the ingredients except for the tomato into the pan and throw in some herbs of your choice too then cook for about 5 minutes.
Now you can add the tomatoes, baked beans and some vegetable stock. Boil everything for about 25 minutes and serve warm. You can also use it as a dip for your garlic bread.
