Dark Chocolate is Good For You and Here’s Why!

Milk chocolate and white chocolate keeps getting the spotlight, let’s talk about dark chocolate instead. Dark chocolate is known for having a bitter taste than the other two chocolate but what makes it good is that it doesn’t acquire high sugar levels and it has high cocoa levels. It’s considered as the ‘healthy chocolate’.

So wanna know why it’s considered as the ‘healthy chocolate’ of all chocolates? Let’s get into it!

1. Dark Chocolate provides Antioxidants

What are antioxidants? Antioxidants refers to reducing the oxidation from damaging our cells and helps to prevent various cell damages that could happen in our body or in very simple words, reduce the risk of many diseases. You can find antioxidants best in fruits and vegetables but you can also find them in dark chocolate too!

2. Improve Your Blood Flow

Who would’ve thought chocolate would help in improving our blood flow? Research by Healthline shows that this shows no effect for people dealing with high blood pressure but for blood flow, its effect is mild. Anyway, it gives you the excuse to eat chocolate (only dark chocolate lah). The flavonoids in dark chocolate help to improve your blood flow and blood vessels.

3. Lowers cholesterol

Consuming dark chocolate doesn’t only improve your blood flow but it lowers the cholesterol as the flavonoids in the dark chocolate helps to increase the ‘good cholesterol’ or in the scientific terms, HDL (high-density lipoprotein) to low the risk of cardiovascular disease.

4. Reduce the risk of heart disease

Besides decreasing the risk of cardiovascular disease, the flavonoids, particularly  a subtype called flavanois that’s included in dark chocolate, is associated with helping to lower the risk of heart disease.

5. Nutritious

From all the benefits we have mentioned, this definitely shows that dark chocolate is packed with nutrients that benefit the cells in your body. With dark chocolate packed with less sugar which makes the taste bitter than the others, it doesn’t mean you can consume so much as it contains high calories and saturated fat but it definitely will benefit you after getting the Covid-19 vaccine as apparently it’s a supplement that helps to boost your mood and is considered as an instant immunity.

SO.. I think we should all try dark chocolate once in a while? I’m not fond of it due to its bitter taste and milk chocolate will always be the number one in my heart but ‘healthy chocolate’ definitely has its own benefits that’s good for us. Here’s to healthy sweets!
