Cleaning your Stainless Steel Mug
Even the toughest looking stainless steel mugs need some love and care sometimes! And knowing the proper way to care for them might just increase their longevity. Here, we’ll teach you how to clean your stainless steel mug and tumbler! And also some aspects to look out for.
- Using a dishwasher
Simply remove the lid from the mug or tumbler and place them in the top rack of your dishwasher and you can let the dishwasher do the rest of the job.
- Hand washing
Using mild detergent and cleaning brush or cloth can easily do the trick as well, just remember to rinse well after using the detergent!
- Dry them thoroughly
After washing, remember to dry the bottle or mug thoroughly on drying racks or using a piece of cloth.
- It’s still dirty? Try deep cleaning.
Sometimes, dirt and debris may build up in your stainless steel mug or tumbler. Fret not, a tablespoon of baking soda and vinegar will do!
- Add a tablespoon of baking soda and a splash of vinegar into your mug or tumbler, and leave the mixture to sit for a while. It will start to foam while it works on exfoliating the stains and dirt in your mug or tumbler.
- After the foam has settled down, cover the mug or tumbler with a lid and give it a good shake, distributing the foam more evenly in the mug or tumbler.
- Disassemble the mug or tumbler and wash each individual component again with mild detergent thoroughly to remove the built up stains and debris residue. Don’t forget about the rubber ring and the outer rim!
- After cleaning, dry them thoroughly.

- Using bleach
Blach has a powerful oxidising agent that will break down the chromium oxide in your stainless steel mug and tumbler. To put it simply, it will destroy your stainless steel and will result in rusting.
- Don’t use steel wool
Never use steel related cleaning tool when it comes to cleaning your stainless steel mug and tumbler such as steel wool or wired brushes as they will scratch and etch the surface of the stainless steel – which may not seem like much, but those tiny scratches are actually places where stains and bacteria can reside in.
