9 Surprising Ways To Add Mayo When Baking And Cooking!

MAYONNAISE. AHH. We love adding it to our sandwiches or burgers, sometimes even eating it by itself!

Haha! But there are other ways you can use this awesome invention to make your food taste even better!

1. IN MASH POTATOES

Now I have tried adding this twist in my homemade mash potatoes, and boy it tasted soo awesome! It makes your mash potatoes have a richer and creamier taste. Coupled with your usual potatoes, butter, milk, salt and pepper – it is a dish to be savored!

So once you have added all the usual ingredients, just add a few tablespoons of mayonnaise and mix well.

2. IN CHOCOLATE CAKES

I bet you weren’t expecting this. As illogical as it may sound, it is the secret for the most moist and tender cakes! Specifically, chocolate cakes. If you’re wondering why, it’s because the egg yolk in mayo adds richness while the oil in the mayo makes it more tender. Plus, the acidity from the mayo – thanks to the lemon and vinegar, elevates the overall flavour of your cake.

Usually for a standard chocolate cake, a ¼  cup of mayonnaise can be added. Use an electric mixer to ensure it is well incorporated.

3. IN GRILLED CHEESE SANDWICHES

Normally, we would just add cheese and butter, but having the mayo makes the sandwich more crispier

Just smear the mayo on the bread then place it face down on the pan to toast it. You’ll get a nice golden brown sandwich and a slight tangy taste, YUM!

4. IN HOMEMADE BURGER PATTIES

This is best for beef patties.

So if you’re making your own beef patty, add a spoon or two of mayonnaise to your minced meat. It gives the patty extra moisture, making it juicier and very flavorful! Shape the patty accordingly then grill it. Maybe this was the SECRET KRABBY PATTY FORMULA!

5. IN BREADED CHICKEN BREASTS

Usually eggs and flour will be used, but you can actually substitute them with mayonnaise.

This will make the bread crumbs stick better to the chicken. Plus it also results in a crispier and beautiful, golden coat.

6. IN SCRAMBLED EGGS

Most of us know adding milk helps make your scrambled eggs more moist, but what most of us didn’t know is that mayonnaise does that better and it also makes it fluffier

So next time you make scrambled eggs, grab that jar of mayonnaise, take a spoon or two and add it to the egg mixture. (Remember add it to the eggs, NOT YOUR MOUTH. HAHAHA!)

7. IN PASTA

This would be great for Alfredo Sauce.

Usually, you would have to mix a bit of flour and butter to make the alfredo sauce if you’re not using some ready-made version. So if you want to make things easier, use mayonnaise – it is way quicker!

8. IN MARINADES

Sounds pretty weird but it actually works!

The fat and acid from the mayo will provide a nice base for your marinade to give it that extra ‘oomph’. You can also add in black pepper, garlic or paprika and even other ingredients to experiment on the flavors.

9. ON GRILL PANS

This is actually a great hack you would have wished you knew earlier.

If you are familiar with the grill, you might have experienced times when your meat sticks to it when cooking. To prevent this, smear a layer of mayonnaise on the grill and you will see that not only it prevents the protein from sticking, it also adds a nice acidic flavor. This makes your meat tastier!

And that’s about it! Hope this helps make your dishes taste even more awesome!
