Brilliant Ways To Use Baking Soda That You Should Know

Baking soda is cool. Not only in baking, but in so many other aspects. You can use it in the kitchen and even on flowers! Shocking right? Here are some brilliant ways to use baking soda. These hacks might just save your time and money!

For The Kitchen

1. A ‘really’ clean bath for your fruits and veg

Most of us are concerned with the hygiene of the fruits and vegetables we buy from the market. We get back home and try to rinse it clean with water. A better way to wash veggies would be to use baking soda. It helps to remove chemicals such as pesticides effectively.

How: Add a spoonful of baking soda to a bowl with your fruits and veg. Let it sit for 10-15mins, then rinse it off.

2. Bye bye stink

It’s unpleasant when you’re excited looking for something yummy in the fridge but when you open it, you smell a really bad odor. You can neutralize this stink with baking soda actually.

How: Get a baking soda box and create a tiny opening then place it in the fridge.

3. Shine Silverware Shine

Got silverware that has lost shine? You don’t need to buy a new set. A simple trick with baking soda can make them shine like new.

How: Boil some water then add 1-2 teaspoons of baking soda and stir it. Then, add your silverware and let the utensils sit for a bit. After that, remove it with tongs and wipe it clean.

4. No more clogged drains

Now this is going to save a lot of money. Instead of calling a plumber or struggling with a kitchen plunger to unclog your kitchen sink, a little bit of baking soda will do the trick.

How: Mix some baking soda and vinegar, pour it into the clogged drain and let it bubble. (feels like a witch making a potion haha!) After about 10 minutes, flush it off with hot water.

5. Grit off the grill

Gilling is fun but cleaning the grill is not so much fun – we can all agree. In fact it may be rather difficult to remove all those grit. Use some baking soda to ease the cleaning process here.

How: Once the grill has cooled, sprinkle some baking soda on the grill and a brush. Then use the brush to remove those stubborn particles.

6. Save your ‘destroyed’ pan

Most of us had the experience of accidentally getting our pan burnt. Not to worry, it may be able to be saved or restored a little.

How: Pour a generous amount of baking soda on the pan then add hot water. Scrub it clean with a rough sponge.

For Beauty or Wellness

1. ‘Colgate’ like teeth

Looking for ways to make your teeth whiter? Baking soda will help you so you will be able to smile confidently.

How: After brushing your teeth with toothpaste, brush it again with some baking soda. Simple as that! Do it consistently and you may see the difference soon.

Baking soda even has antimicrobial properties. See I told you it was cool! So you can use it to eliminate that unpleasant foot odor.

How: Get a pail or water, pour in some baking soda and soak your feet in it. (kinda like a mini spa day)

Asian mums probably already know this. Usually if you have a blister or ulcer in your mouth, you would have been asked to apply some salt to the area. The same goes for baking soda since it is actually a type of salt too.

How: Just dab a little bit of baking soda on the area then rinse it off later.

For General Cleaning

1. Food Stains

We know it can be really hard to remove those stubborn ketchup or curry stains from plastic containers. A little baking soda could be your hero here.

How: Get some baking soda and water then soak those containers in the mixture for about half hour to 1 hour. After that, use a sponge to clean it up.

2. Coffee Stains

Your favourite mug has coffee stains now? I’ve been there too. You can get it cleaned up with baking soda don’t worry!

How: Sprinkle some baking soda into the cup and let it sit for a few minutes. Then, use a cloth, dip it into cold water and use it to scrub the insides of the cup.

3. Stains on Shower Curtains

White shower curtains look really aesthetic, however they may be easier and faster to get stained and dirty. That’s just the problem with white fabric. Get some baking soda to make ‘em look clean again.

How: Scrub the fabric with some baking soda and you’ll see the changes.

May the baking soda be with you hehehe!
