Top 8 Best Chicken Rice Shops in Ipoh 2022

The Hainanese Chicken Rice recipe was inherited from immigrants from Hainan in Southern China. This dish is extremely popular and has become a culinary staple in countries such as Malaysia, Indonesia, and Singapore. This Chinese dish was based on a well-known Hainanese dish called Wenchang Chicken which historically originates from the Qin Dynasty.

Hainanese Chicken Rice is claimed by Singapore to be one of its national dishes. McDonald’s Singapore even launched the Crispy Hainanese Chicken Burger which was inspired by this popular Hainanese Chicken Rice dish, just in time for Singapore’s National Day in 2021. However, to date, there is still an unsettled debate between Malaysia and Singapore as to the actual origins of this traditional dish.

Why is Hainanese chicken rice so popular?

Hainanese Chicken Rice is so popular because despite being a simple dish, it is irresistibly delectable and it is extremely affordable as well. This popular dish includes tender poached chicken and aromatic rice cooked with chicken stock, then paired with garlic and ginger chilli sauce.

Ipoh town is famous for its Hainanese Chicken Rice. There are the more well-known shops such as the Restoran Tauge Ayam Lou Wong and Ong Kee Restaurant. On the other hand, there are lesser-known local favourites such as Restoran Nasi Ayam Pak Kong and Restoran Chong Thoong Kee.
